David and I shared a keen interest in sport, especially the fortunes of Yorkshire County Cricket Club, but much more important were David's enthusiasm for life, his love for his family and his Christian faith. We often met when he was a Day Chaplain at Ely Cathedral, and his faith shone brightly as he was fulfilling an important part of his ministry, particularly when leading hourly prayers.
